• Went to watch a some Lacrosse games at a freiends invitiation. It is a pretty brutal sport, but good to watch (and no, I felt no urge to try it out).

 • My lovely wife waiting patiently as I did some test shots in her local church. As often happens she stood still too long and hence got photographed.

 • I had been in London for all of about two hours (time enough to get to my hotel and and have a shower) when I decided to go for a walk in Green Park towards the palace. When I got there I found huge security and vast groups of tourists. Seems that the horse guards were rehearsing for something big in the next week. Despite the security there was an almost festival atmosphere with tourists (myself included) taking an unexpected chance for a sneak preview. Even the police, while watchful seemed in the mood. Except for this guy who seemed to be able tune out everything except his job. I liked the juxtaposition of him and the pageantry behind.

 • We were doing the tourist rounds of the Palatine hill when I noticed this guy in the classic pose of peaceful thought and concentration. I thought it balanced well with rock and wall and left me wondering if 2000 years ago some Roman senator may have sat in a similar spot to read. This image is also a good example of how the mind only wants to see what it likes. When I reviewed the set of pictures I found his partner just off to the left gesticulating vehemently. My guess that far from sitting in peaceful concentration he had actually gotten them lost and was trying to nut it out with the insistent help of his loving partner.

 • Michelle took one look at the set of images that this came from and asked if I was trying to look like Steve Jobs! Yet another self portait as I play around with studio lighting. Lots of fun especially when it is either too hot or too wet to do anything outside, just need to find some other subjects!

 • I like this shot of my wife Michelle and our friend Julian more for composition than any other reason. The differences in the direction of their gazes creates angles that I find pleasing and is accentuated by the similarity of their dress. Unfortunately the light sucked, being pretty well in the middle of a scorching day at the end of Newcastle Breakwater.

And before anyone asks, no Michelle is not weighed down with my camera gear!

 • A little later in the day at the same location as below I could not resist this "lion stalks its prey shot" (sorry Jules). Once again I like the muted colours of summer and the warmth of the setting sun. Julian's concentration as he tries to compose his shot contrasts nicely with the feel of the fields around him and is framed quite well by the ruin of the wall. At least those are my thoughts on the image.

 • Wandering the streets of the old town in Barcelona when I looked down a side street and caught this image. Didn't want to stop as I thought he may notice and react. At first the image (to me) conjures ideas of loneliness and loss, A person alone in a city that is teeming with life. However he had actually stopped to eat his lunch, not sure if he was a tourist or a local. I liked the image. Technically I had little to do with this picture, the camera and lens did all the work. I was walking down one of the very busy tourist haunts of the old town, saw this guy, lifted the camera to my eye and snapped without stopping walking. Especially for street photography I think you have to have a lot of faith in the cameras systems and worry about composition. At leat in this case it seemed to work.
